Re: The game is on (can we make MiNT/TOS this pretty?)

What I miss in modern OS-es is not some visual, cosmetic thing, but something what I seen only in TOS 2.06 and later: loading DESKTOP.INF (or NEWDESK,INF) file at any time - and you get in moment your layout for specific work, activity. This is an interesting observation, have never thought of that...

Re: The game is on (can we make MiNT/TOS this pretty?)

This is good thinking, FreeMiNT needs this as hell else 90% of Atari users would die thinking that FreeMiNT = booting into that command line shell.

Faucon2001 has done pretty cool job with his BeeKey / EasyAraMiNT but more is possible.

Re: SuperVidel soon?

As a SuperVidel just hit $810 on eBay I would say there is a market for new units. I know I would buy one immediately if I could. Ironic. Very. Yeah, it happened with Jookie's HW as well -- first it seemed he is going to LOSE money on the UltraSatan's first batch and in the end there is enough cust...

Re: Oh no! No more DSUB19 connectors! Where'd they all go?

Male connectors wouldn't be a problem: http://www.iec-usa.com/cgi-bin/iec/DB19MS (it's from the guy who ordered 10 000 of them to manufacture) but female ones... much harder.

EDIT: They do sell female ones, too: http://www.iec-usa.com/cgi-bin/iec/DB19FS

Re: EasyMint shell?

Yep, what others said. You don't need a shell for debug outputs. Go to freemint.github.io/#snapshots, download the latest TosWin2 build (included in the freemint+xaaes build), set the TOSRUN env variable and you're all set.

The freemint+xaaes build mentioned above does that already for you.

It's funny to see how clueless some people are. Whole world was making fun of Windows 95 because of its ability to crash to easily because it lacked proper memory management , driver protection and a zillion of other things. Windows 95 loads maybe 10 times faster than Windows 10. With something as p...

Aaaaaand I can reply myself because the test program is still available. The version on their website is still the slow one so we've been throttled to 2/3 of possible performance for THREE YEARS so far. :-(

As mentioned in some other thread - this features has been implemented and will be included in the next driver revision. Now, this was posted on "Tue Feb 18, 2014". Nature's website offers an updated package from "March 05 2014". However the archive contains SV_XBIOS.PRG from &q...

No, that is lack of features. :)

You can have a Linux kernel booting in 2 secs and booting in 20 mins, it's all about configuration. Maybe Windows and Macs are not so configurable but it's about the same thing.

I will next time I have physical access to the system. Unfortunately this won't happen for a long while. Oh :-( I'm quite curious about this, see below. 1) My case is marked as a GER (Germany) model, however the "3" in the version digit written on the case is for PAL-B. To be honest, this...

There is definitely something else to add to the serial number because my 1994 model cannot have a serial number as low as 4144. On the contrary, it's the...

68060 50 = pentium 233 (no MMX type cpu)

Yeah, sure. Do a simple mind experiment, imagine Quake, or even better Quake II, running on the Pentium 233 and on the 68060, I'll even give you the liberty to overclock it to 100 MHz and use SuperVidel's 8-bit chunky graphics.

No freaking way.

I don't have that to add - Atari TTP works not . And I don't care actually. How much time takes to pack some 300 KB executable on 8 MHz Atari ? Do you pack only executables, or some binary files too ? Of course I pack it on PC. :) Executables only, depacking time is not really that bad, hardly noti...

SuperVidel's DVI connector's screws

Hi, maybe this is really a dumb question but I couldn't overlook that standard DVI male connector is possible to plug (of course) but not possible to fasten -- it seems like on the SuperVidel's female connector there are just holes but not for screws? Does anybody know a way to fix it (other than un...

Re: Has anyone tried Gotek on the Falcon?

IMHO, Gotek+Atari firmware is the way to go for the Falcon. I have a CE in my STE, where it does exactly what it is supposed to do -- making my life easier ;), in the Falcon I could use it, sure, but I have other things which makes it not so necessary (PARCP-USB, hard disk, network card), only disk ...
