Re: Upgrade path

TOS: Go for 1.04 for best compatibility with games. If games and (old) demos are not so important, 2.06 is a good choice but more expensive. RAM: As much as you can :) Nowadays there is no reason to not go for 4Mb when you're upgrading. . If demos and floppy-only games (*) aren't important, one cou...

Re: Is it possible to run System V on Hatari?

Hmm, I was going to start my process of running System V on my TT030, but it sounds like I can't test things via Hatari. Does Hatari even support TT High? Hatari has supported it since v0.95 when TT emulation support was added, i.e. over a decade ago. (After that, there have been some improvements,...

There should be Videl border color support in Hatari since v2.0.

Thanks for the reply Eero. ... both version of HAtari uses same configuration and TOS rom 4.04. Only HAtari version is changed. I see from your screen shots that you have enabled MMU emulation. One of them main difference between v2.0 and v2.1 is cache emulation with MMU. 2.0 didn't emulate cache when MMU was enabled. To get...

Re: blit buffer to display, vro_cpyfm or vrt_cpyfm?

I suggest you pre-scale the fonts and scale graphics output while rendering. This will be much, much faster (and better looking) than scaling the finished bitmap. For monochrome mode, best looking output would probably come just by scaling height by 1/2 i.e. dropping every other row. I don't know h...

Re: Anyone to convert a Z80 music player?

I just managed to do some measurements using gwEm's CPU measurer (is that even a word? anyway). Hatari profiler can measure an exact amount of cycles for you, for any part of your code. Probably easiest way to do that is adding symbol for start and end of the part of code you want to measure before...

Re: blit buffer to display, vro_cpyfm or vrt_cpyfm?

No, unfortunately not. That would only work if VDI would also scale the source bitmap up/down while blitting, but it does not (NVDI can do that if you add 0x8000 to the writing mode, but other VDIs cannot handle that; also it might look rather ugly). Might look ugly? Monochrome scaling looks horrib...

Cr*p. I get crashes with TOS <= 2.x also with the new aligned screen size when there's >= 4MB of RAM. I just need to move cursor for several seconds in the 16x16 area of the Atari screen bottom right corner. In happens also with OldAUE CPU core, so it's not CPU core specific. It happens also with H...

If you use "--trace os_base" option, does Hatari output any messages about what might be going wrong?

Right... On further thinking I think it's best to forget that feature. While it could work for ST/STE, having it for those and not for Falcon/TT would be too inconsistent.

Re: NetHack Atari Port Being Depreciated

This would be very sad because Atari NetHack version was the very first one with a GUI, and its tile-set was actually adapted by upstream NetHack. Btw. Atari GUI was written by Warwick Allison (using his own C++ GEM toolkit), who's part of current NetHack DevTeam: https://nethackwiki.com/wiki/DevTea...

Did any ancient GCC toolchain version support DRI objects? If yes, digging up the old sources would be one option for documentation.

ScummVm can be tested also under Hatari, but it needs FPU and huge amount of RAM: hatari -s 14 --ttram 256 --machine falcon --tos tos404.img --dsp none --addr24 off --fpu internal Then run "scummvm-m68020-olivier.ttp" and give it "-c scummvm.cfg" as arguments. ScummVm thread else...

Ok, I got the pattern now: * On TOS <= 2.x and >= 4MB of RAM, screen width needs to be 128 + multiply of 256 pixels, regardless of how many planes there are * With less RAM, TOS v3 or EmuTOS, it's enough for width to be multiply of 16 bytes (i.e. 128/planes) I've commited a fix for this and update ...

Ultima-like Haxima/Nazghul might be a potential port to higher end Ataris: https://sourceforge.net/projects/nazghul/ (Nazghul is Lisp engine for RPGs on top of libSDL, Haxima is Lisp sources for the actual game.) I ported it in early this century to ARM of that time, and main performance bottleneck ...

Currently window size isn't visible to Hatari, it's SDL internal thing. Hatari just sets internal framebuffer size and SDL2 scales that, to whatever size it deems suitable. Looking at the SDL2 documentation, there seem to be SDL_GetWindowSize() and SDL_SetWindowSize() functions which might be used f...
