Re: 68020 booster

Very important for you... I want a stable card(68020 and/or 68030). FastRam will be on a add-on card. There is not enough space on these card to put more than 4MB of SRAM if we were to add it (5V or 3.3v with level shifters SRAM ) .. 4MB is not what I want and probably not what you want. I want 128M...

Re: 68020 booster

We've run into a few PCB issue (bad PCB). We're also testing ton STFM and also ran into issues so we're fixing the code. The V3 PCB had a few errors (my fault) so we need to redo a round of PCB. And of course... life got in the way so we're working on it as time permit but things are going slow but ...

Re: not-so-stable TT

On the TT the ASCI port use the standard old DMA (same as ST/STE/MSTE). The SCSI port goes through the DCU (U901) driven by one of the new DMA controller (U900). So if you are having issues with both SCSI and ASCI devices it's most probably something else like memory or some other issue on the CPU b...

Re: Mega STe PSU replacement with Flex ATX

I used a PicoPSU ( picoPSU-120 ) and a small PCB with a ATX connector on it and a 7905 to generate the -5V. Works fine with my TT. I even put a connector for the fan and reused the original PSU enclosure. I'll see if I can take a few picture if interested. I think there is a thread on the forum some...

Re: CPU/Processor Upgrade for the Atart ST

it was probably old sock or refurbished cpu as the 68030 (and EC) have been retired and out of production since end of 1998 for the RC package (official last ship date from Motorola/Freescale/NXP ), 2001 for the RP package

Re: CPU/Processor Upgrade for the Atart ST

I also wonder if anyone has designed a modern accelerator based around the 25MHz 68EC030 seeing as they still make them and they're available cheaply. Are you sure about this as I haven't found any source for 68030 or 68EC030. NXP marked all of these as no longer manufactured. If you have a source ...

Re: Falcon Afterburner - Please Help!

Ok.
Let us know all your findings :)
I might pull the AB040 from storage and put it back in my Falcon and apply all the fix you'll find .
I assume you're documenting all of this and will release all your findings at some point ?

Re: Falcon Afterburner - Please Help!

Do you mean a 68060 on the AB040 ? I started to make an adapter but I haven't had time to test the new version I made of the PCB. There might be some timing issues and software isssues to. My adapter is based on the 68060 databook and some schematics for the Milan 68060 adapter. One day I'll have ti...

Re: Falcon Afterburner - Please Help!

Ok, let us know. My AB040 is in a box right now but will go back in the Falcon in the next few month once I can re-install all my Atari stuff (everything is in boxes as we're doing some construction on the house). As for the sky .. I was in Oregon last week for the eclipse and indeed the sky looked ...

Re: Falcon Afterburner - Please Help!

If you overclock it to high you will feed the BCLCK with 62MHz and the 88915 which then double it to feed the PCLK. I'm fairly sure the 88915 can't support these speeds. My AB040 never worked properly at 50MHz, was somewhat ok at 40MHz and very stable at 32MHz I know that not all AB040 were equal (m...

Re: ED (2.88mb) Floppy Upgrade for Falcon

The 32 MHz goes to the DSP pin 74 (named EXTAL) and DMA pin 10 (named DSP_32_I with a signal named DSP_32M going to it). When you overclock the DSP, you cut the 32MHz line between the oscillator and the DSP, then wire a new oscillator (50MHz) directly to the DSP, leaving the 32MHz to DMA untouched s...

Re: 68020 booster

We're in the process of ordering the new revision of the pcb for our V3 proto which if everything goes well will become the final version (we will remove the test headers for the final version but that's about it). We don't intend to sale it but to make all files available as an open source project ...

Argg.. I won't be able to make this time. I didn't even know about you guys.
I'll try to plan for the July meeting (it's just 30mn from my place).
I might bring a few proto of the 68020 card to show around (I might even have time to fix them and bring the MSTE with a card in it).

Re: STE BOOSTER V1 32MHZ & FAST-TOS

Agreed .. the FPGA still used an external ram in which it "copies" the full 4MB STRAM while snooping so that it can then render from it (aka similar to what supervidel is doing, except it only snoop whatever it needs from the screen video start address + size of a frame). There are many wa...

Re: STE BOOSTER V1 32MHZ & FAST-TOS

Any "video card" we build will not access the ST RAM. It will have its own RAM. Having the GPU (Epson, FGPA, ...) drive its own ram is the best way to get fast video with a higher resolution. Making something that access the ST RAM would require it to interface between the GLUE/MMU and RAM...

Re: STE BOOSTER V1 32MHZ & FAST-TOS

Yes the chip has a dedicated SDRAM (or EDO DRAM) for the video frame buffer and other feature (sprites ...) and depending on the chip this RAM is more or less big :) The epson chip are cheap (around $20 to $30 max), but they do not have any video mode compatible with Falcon or ST 4/8 interleaved pla...
