Make sure you run vasm in Devpac mode. There's a switch for that.

My and my son's first gameplay on it, and perhaps first ever in at least 20 years. :) I want to understand and know this system better. I like it for some reason, and I want to love it. I never had interest in amiga computer, but I think I like atari st computer. That's the spirit! I've spent some ...

I'm totally blown away by all this nonsense havoc. It's not even demoscene stuff. Demozoo and Pouet seem to rather want to stand above the community than be a part of it. It's sure changed my view of the sites knowing how they are managed. Sad!

Re: Overheating chip on Atari STE plugged into socket U405--is it normal?

Doesn't seem right. That's an electrolytic capacitor and I see no reason why it should become hot unless its damaged, the polarity is incorrect or it's exposed to ripple currents that's outside of its specifications, etc. In general, electrolytic capacitors should not be exposed to high temperatures...

Re: Overheating chip on Atari STE plugged into socket U405--is it normal?

What capacitor on the PSU runs hot? Capacitors should not run hot. Electrolytic polarized caps can if the polarity is reversed or if the specs of a cap do not meet the requirements.

Interview with me (Daniel Hedberg)

Hi, I was interviewed for the third and final volume in "The Atari ST and the Creative People" series of books: "Return of the Borders". I received the book a few days ago and discovered that only fragments of the interview were published. For anyone interested, you can find the ...

Re: JOY - a new Falcon030 demo from New Beat

Well, I haven't investigated it in any depth as it's not my machine, but the Falcon030 motherboard is not known for having the best design and stability. Anything can happen on a motherboard designed and produced by Atari, right? ;-)

Re: JOY - a new Falcon030 demo from New Beat

Congratulations Daniel, you have officially developed the first demo which *requires* clock patch. ;) Oh, thanks, I guess. ;-) About the Blitter problem. My friend, whose Falcon had problems with JOY crashing when the machine was cold, but which ran just fine after being powered-on for some time, n...

I would recommend the Rigol DS1054Z if you want a new digital scope. It's a very capable 4 channel scope and an awesome deal for what you get really.

Alright, so no clock patch. Seems like that could be it, at least that's one thing that all of the machines have in common so far.

I do not have any modifications made on this motherboard. This Falcon is like directly from factory.

OK. Same with my friend's Falcon that have the same problem. It has no clock patch either.

Re: JOY - a new Falcon030 demo from New Beat

So, if there's more than two machines suffering from this I think we can exclude the bad solder joint theory. Seems unlikely. I guess it could be different revisions of the motherboard causing some machines to be more unstable when using the Blitter. Different revisions of the Combel perhaps? At lea...

Re: JOY - a new Falcon030 demo from New Beat

This sounds exactly like what a friend of mine is experiencing on his Falcon and unfortunately it's likely a hardware problem. We eventually identified the cause of the freezes on his machine to be related to the Blitter. Most polygons in Joy are filled using the Blitter, so it's heavily used. I'm n...

Re: Dead Falcon - no boot / coloured screen only

Well if any soldering work has been done on the top side of the PCB, the PCB will have been heated up and surface mount components on the back side may have moved around.
