Re: uip-tool

It has been a while since I last exchanged data with uiptool as I did not use a LAN cable anymore for internet. Maybe it's old news, but I am amazed again! I found setting up a direct connection from Netusbee to a Linux laptop LAN port is very simple. For those who care: network connections -> wired...

Awesome, I guess this opens up real hardware chip tracking to many people and gives all those mistreated SM124 a new reason to exist. Thank you gwEm!

Re: Mega ST : Using it vertical style

I found a minor issue with my megas stored that way. They would not boot up properly as some chips got a bit loose during the years. Opening and gently pressing them back in bit helped each time here. This is likely a general issue though, just was more obvious in case of the megas.

Re: Screamtracker/ImpulseTracker Falcon 030?

Oh, I didn't know Growling loads S3M as well, nice. And yes, I remember it was very impressive with the songs I tested. Also, now I remember now why I liked Megaplayer so much. I think it was one of the few ways to replay also Digital Tracker modules in the desktop. However, there were small issues ...

Re: Screamtracker/ImpulseTracker Falcon 030?

Mikro, yes, its not so obvious. You have to explicitely select the format in the "disk menu - module file" section. And few additional notes from my fading memory... ;) For replaying PC formats there are several options but all of them work mostly with "basic" songs not using hig...

Re: NetUSBee USB storage driver download

I can recommend using a 256 MB MS-DOS partition (without Bigdos), works fine here with a 1 GB stick. Needs TOS >1.02 though. I use it with SELTOS and TOS2.06.

Fletch: try Seltos with e.g. 2.06 in 1.02 machines. Works here.

Alexh: I referred to the first paragraph about software overscan.

On hardware overscan applications maybe this review provides some ideas.

Try any of the recent demos by DHS (dhs.nu), or as a great classic: Ventura Demo by Overlanders (comes on two disks)

Re: MEGA ST 2 - what could this strange add on be?

About ST in music studios, maybe simply using discs was very common. Once the sequencer was loaded, as I suppose there was not much to read and write except rather small midi files. Mega was more targeted for offices I suppose. But thats wild guessing :) These threads cover the Atari Falcon fan topi...

Re: MEGA ST 2 - what could this strange add on be?

In my opinion the original harddisk (Seagate 48 MB) is the more annoying part in the Mega STE when it comes to noise. If the machine is running without harddrive or a proper replacement e.g. Ultrasatan, the noise coming from the psu fan alone is not that bad, at least nothing close to the noise prod...

Re: MEGA ST 2 - what could this strange add on be?

According to this article in ST Computer Magazine (German) from 1987 first there were only 2 and 4 MB models and 1 MB models that were announced before were skipped. Obviously, this had been changed shortly later on or was a misunderstanding on side of the journalist and Atari delivered a 1 MB versi...

Re: my ultrasatan does not work (video inside)

Hi, my Ultrasatan worked perfectly since 2009 till last week. This is amazing on its own. However, when I connected it to a STE which worked flawlessly with it before, loaded some demo streaming data and it crashed. Afterwards I think there was some strange behaviour and now the US will not find any...

Re: Atari ST demos on 2 disks supporting drive B

Very nice that we share the same memory on Street Fighter 2. I remember how I loved to play the SNES version at friends place and consequently bought it for my ST. What a surprise to see this conversion, in a not so positive way and changing disks several times for each opponent just added to this :...

Re: Atari ST demos on 2 disks supporting drive B

Right, it's not that 2 disk drives are absolutely necessary. but I remember that swapping disks in Megademos and games was kind of annoying at times and I hoped for a more relaxed show with 2 disk drives. But maybe it boils down to my way of demo menu - user interaction (e.g. choose screens randomly...

Updated the list a bit. Seems there are only few demos supporting drive B. Maybe it was more common for games. Also, using drive B may make you miss the "change disk" screens ;)

Atari ST demos on 2 disks supporting drive B

As I just took my SF314 drive from the basement and do some tests with it, I wonder if there is some knowledge on which ST two disk demos are actually supporting a drive B. I remember that there were a few - not necessarily those one would expect to, and also the other way around. Any hints? Disk dr...

Re: MEGA ST 2 - what could this strange add on be?

Thanks Mark. Switching / holding the button did not affect anything like speedup. But the temperature detection seems to work in a way that the fan starts after a while when the machine is in use and not instantly when the machine is switched on.

Re: MEGA ST 2 - what could this strange add on be?

You guys were right. Later on I found there is a poti on the device to adjust the fan speed (off to "megafile kind of level"). Maybe the button is to switch on/off temperature detection, but I could not really get this working in my tests. However, setting the fan speed is pretty useful as...

Re: MEGA ST 2 - what could this strange add on be?

The disk errors are now gone and loading software works again. Pressing chips helped. However, that fan now turned off completely. Maybe one of the cables is not sitting properly or so. I wonder if the fan in Mega ST can stay switched off completely or if it will overheat? I read its a problem for M...

MEGA ST 2 - what could this strange add on be?

Hi everyone, currently, I am checking a long stored Mega 2 machine. It has a button on the back and inside I found this little add on glued on one of the chips (well the glue is gone, so I lay it on the side for the photo). It is this white "board" with the black box attached and some &quo...
