But I guess you mean BLIT mode (hog bit=0)?

I've just corrected my previous posts, and changed HOG to BLIT where it was needed

Re: *** R-TYPE DELUXE SOURCE CODE ***

After some testing I found that the game hangs when running at >8Mhz because it uses a peculiar way of doing vsync: - first timer B is used to change the hardscroll parameters in the lower part of the screen to display the status bar (status_tb) - then a new timer B to open the lower border (lower_...

After looking around, knowing what to look for, this is all the rage in several retroscenes. C64 owners got ready kits selling on ebay for $40. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Commodore-64-Telnet-Wifi-Adapter-300-to-9600-Baud-BBS-Bulletin-Board-Systems-/272659604709?hash=item3f7bc764e5:g:UU4AAOSw5cNYKPef ?...

Re: VGA adapter with Blow Up and VGA/RGB switch

using Destkop inf file you can remove border only for TV mode.
in case of VGA/SM124 you have to use BlowUP/Videlity application

Micro, I mentioned "VDI drivers" because I would like to use clean GEM application in higher resolution with more colors.

Re: VGA adapter with Blow Up and VGA/RGB switch

Micro IIRC its not possible on no overclocked Videl. 16bit color mode is available when PixelClock is set to max half of the main clock. For stock Falcon this is 16MHz - 640 pixels in TV mode, and 12,5Mhz 320 pixels in VGA mode. You can remove left/right borders and get 720 in TV mode and about 400 ...

yep, it could be 2-4 fps when you have to reload whole screen as a bitmap (e.g video) but in case of GEM (AES/VDI) you have to push mainly primitive graphics commands with some small bitmaps

Re: ATARI depacking benchmark

Here's the results from my TT, MSTE and Falcon (3 machines, 3 different monitors, 1 phone ghetto cam so bare with me!) Thanks ggn! It's really interesting. I'm surprised how falcon is "really not so fast" compared to TT or 16Mhz MSTE! I guess your TT is 32Mhz right? it's faster than falco...

Re: ATARI depacking benchmark

I'm interested if someone could post bench result from other machines such as MegaSTE, TT, Falcon, etc. I could check it on MSTE/TT tomorrow. Is it autostart floppy disk? In case of yes, then figures for MSTE could be not correct, because starts in STE mode - 8Mhz no cache. Also does it use TT-RAM ...

Re: Just another Blitter demo

Could be interesting to know how many 32*31, 3pl sprites can run on an normal amiga 500. Maybe Frank B. can give us some numbers? ;) according to this page A500 can run ~19 bobs 32x24 per frame (draw/restore) on a 320x256x5 screen and this tool shows 17 bobs 32x32 per frame (save/draw/restore) on a...

SNES (which was released only one year after A500) was a twice or more better. it's extremly hard to compare the two systems, and even harder with numbers! ( twice or more ). What feature are you speaking? If you speak about CPU power, SNES is more than twice slower than AMIGA :) Of course SNES is ...

Re: about the blitter ^^

lets say we have a block of code where we can distinguish two parts: A) copy a block of memory B) some CPU calculation (e.g. depacking) It is interesting which variant will be faster: 1) A done by the CPU and then B done by the CPU or 2) A done by the BLiTTER and B done by the CPU - both points in p...

but we can use movem.l with lot of registers - then CPU is some 10-15% slower. yep, but in this case all the CPU registers are blocked and as you mentioned CPU blitting is 10-15% slower. Therefore, the BLiTTER ensures you faster blitting and free CPU for other tasks. But Atari was not designed as g...
