Re: Memory access time

in both machines - ST and TT, access to the ST ram works in exactly the same manner. One memory slot is equal 250ns and CPU gets even memory slots, Shifter odd. but how Atari TT have 4 times bigger resolutions if ST-ram access have same timings? Because Shifter in TT access ST-Ram by 64bit width an...

Re: TT and NemBench

I am not sure but read from DRAM is destructive operation: meaning that you need to read and then to write back content. If you want to write new content, then you need only to write it so it is faster then reading? sounds resonable and writing to FastRAM is almost same speed as writing to cache! C...

Re: TT and NemBench

every hardware designer will say that if computer hardware is well designed than writing is always faster than reading. actually, I have no idea why writing is faster 68030 data cache is a write-through cache. Therefore every write data to the cache involves also write data to the main ram. Finally...

Re: TT and NemBench

yep in case of "read" and "write" figures seems to be disturbed by ram waitstates interesting fact: on some TT writing 32bit long word to FastRAM is ALMOST faster than writing to cache! How this is possible? I observed the same situation for stock A1200 where "write" i...

Re: Daimakaimura (Ghouls 'n Ghosts) for the Atari STE

Another short update: one of the two biggest issues has been solved. The sprite drawing code uses 16 bit addressing for a faster Blitter register setup each line. This, however, limits the screen area to 64 kB. Horizontal scrolling would be possible to a certain extent but vertical scrolling is not...

Re: Daimakaimura (Ghouls 'n Ghosts) for the Atari STE

instead "technical bottleneck" I would say it is "optimization side-effect" instead of writing full 32bit destination address into the BLiTTER's destination (or source) register, he writes only lower 16bit, therefore he saves some CPU cycles per the BLiTTER initialization. A side...

Re: TT High and up with Falcon w/o internal mod

TT use 95 MHz clock for its MONO mode, and it is 1280x960 with 60hz refresh rate. We can overclock Videl but e.g. 50Mhz isn't enough fo 60Hz refresh rate.
I experimented with 66Mhz clock and finally my Videl was burned.

Fifteen or more years ago I heard about a cartridge with IDE port. But it seems nothing happened so far in this matter.

Fortunately there is a new project: "Upcoming Jaguar SD Cartridge". I have Lynx SD card produced by him.

After some testing I found that the game hangs when running at >8Mhz because it uses a peculiar way of doing vsync: - first timer B is used to change the hardscroll parameters in the lower part of the screen to display the status bar (status_tb) - then a new timer B to open the lower border (lower_...
