Re: Help me identify old ST game

That sounds to me exactly like PowerDown. It was a Mastertronic game, but was on the 8 bit Atari. not the ST.

One of my favourite games on that computer.

Re: Which direction retro computing goes ?

I have no interest in anything but the real hardware. I think the MIST attracts people without real hardware that want to experience it again. It's alot easier and cheaper to get the MIST up and running. I'll say yes, and no. I have my old STFM still, along with a handful of Amiga's. However, I alm...

Absolutely in the root of the SD card. The atari800 folder is only used for the Atari 8 bit core.

Re: ST Mini (Mist Clone)

Can anyone tell me how this is better than the MiST? Smaller, sure. More memory, sure. But it only has 2 USB vs 4, one DB9 vs 2, and no MIDI port option. Plus, the nicely machined case for the MiST vs 3D printed one? Maybe if they'd swapped out VGA for a more modern interface.. It's actually got th...

Re: Really basic questions

If a game asks you to insert disk 2, how do you acknowledge you have done so? I tried using OSB to put it in disk A and B but it just sits and stares at me. The ST doesn't actively scan the drive for changes like the Amiga would. Most games will require you to press a key, or press the fire button,...

Re: Really basic questions

What happens if, from the desktop, you insert your IK+ disk in drive A, and then chose cold reboot (or something similar)? Providing the disk image is a good one, that should boot correctly.

Re: ZX-UNO Spectrum FPGA

As for MiST, most of all I miss an Atari-inspired case and the ability to use an Atari (Mega/TT) keyboard. Which is the main reason I have yet to buy one... That's understandable. The standard MiST metal case is somewhat uninspiring. Someone on the forum posted a couple of case designs a while back...

I tried the last couple of core releases last night. Previously I'd reported that the screen wasn't particularly stable on my TV, but I'm happy to report that the last two releases look fantastic. No issues with the screen at all, and I even treated myself to a quick game of Cybernoid

Re: ZX Spectrum reborn in a kickstarter

In many ways, this is like someone designing an ST(E), with integrated accelerator, FPU, hardware overscan + other hardware improvements people have come up with over the years, added HDMI/VGA output, SD-card etc while still keeping all the ST's ports and thrown in a few more videomodes with a spri...

Re: Amiga 500 vs Atari STE... I couldnt resist

I couldn't resist making these computers Duel. I wonder how you managed to have them in sync? I have tried it with a 486 DOS-PC using Fasttracker2 and an STFM using ProTracker 2.1 and after short time they are out of sync... From a similar thread on EAB, it's nothing more than pressing play at the ...

It's good to see a 15KHz signal for this core, though I still can't get a stable picture on my LG LCD TV. The picture jumps around quite a lot, and occasionally "spikes" mid frame, with a few lines being pulled to the left. I also get something similar on the updated PC Engine core. Does a...

Re: Konix Navigator & Atari Paddles quickie...

best joystick ever imho Agreed, though it's unfortunately quite flimsy. One of mine had a broken fire button (probably from pressing too hard) that I had to glue back together, and the auto fire switch kept falling off as two of the plastic clips underneath had broken off. I also had to open it up ...

Re: Konix Navigator & Atari Paddles quickie...

Exactly that. The grey lead was due to the later Spectrum's having a 9-pin Atari-type joystick port, however the wiring was different. The Navigator had the extra, short grey lead to change the joystick into a Spectrum-compatible one. I've had both type of Navigator (it was my favourite joystick). R...

I've got a boxed copy of The Munsters that came with an "Again Again" iron-on transfer I think.

Also have a boxed copy of the Magnetic Scrolls Collection, which included a cassette tape to go with "Corruption".

Re: amstrad cpc 6128

I've never got this core running on my TV via SCART, it always defaults to saying No Signal. Most other cores run without issue. The closest I got was when I learnt that the OSD button can toggle the scan doubler. If I push the core to 31KHz mode and then back to 15KHz, I DO see the blue BASIC scree...

Re: Mist, Keymap... HELP

The majority of the keys on your keyboard should match the ST layout, I believe. If you're talking about country-specific issues (e.g. the £ sign is missing, or # si in the wrong place), then these are largely down to the country version of the TOS image you use. There are plenty of images on google...

Pondering cycle accuracy

Just a curious question that I've been pondering - I understand that the FPGA 68000 core used in the ST and Amiga cores isn't considered cycle accurate, and presume this manifests itself as some instructions taking too many/too few cycles to complete. I can also understand how this will impact code ...

These two articles give a pretty thorough (and hopefully accurate) description of the whole negotiation process.
