Portfolio help

Hi. I got broken Atari portfolio from a friend. When batteries are inserted all I can see is a black screen (all pixels) but I can hear clicking sound when keys are pressed. Any suggestions how to fix this or maybe there`s no hope?

Re: Poor man's 13 pin video connector

Well 3 euros is not problem. About 20 euros for shipment to my, excuse my french, crappy country is a bit to much.

I`m not familiar with plugs and hardware you are takling about. Maybe I could make that, too.
I only have 520ST, no extensions and stuff, at the moment. (and 2600 :) )

Re: ST Vga help

I finished the cable and it`s working good. I made for both 9 and 15 pin connectors including audio RCA connector. (there`s also a little switch for high res)

Re: Poor man's 13 pin video connector

Don`t think that will do the job. It`s very hard and easy breakable and can slip from metal casing.... unless glued to it. It also needs to be liquid so it will fill the gaps between pins.

Re: Poor man's 13 pin video connector

Just low power iron and quick soldering (and a little bit of soldering paste for quick applying)

Poor man's 13 pin video connector

Hello Atarists. I got my Atari 520ST (finally) but without PSU and any cable or mouse. I couldn`t find these anywhere in my country and didn`t have patience and money to order online, so I decided to make my own PSU, cables and connectors from my junkyard to test out Atari. For power supply I used o...

ST Vga help

Greetings. I made A/V out cable for my 520ST and it`s working great. Now it`s time to make some VGA cable. Can you just tell me what wiring should I use and is Atari providing 30KHz so I can hook it up to regular VGA (crt/tft) monitor using R, G, B, and Hsync Vsync signals. I was reading some posts ...

Atari to Amiga terminal?

Hello. Is it possible to connect 520st with a 500 using 25pin to 25pin null-modem cable. I just want to test out amiga serial port since I`m having trouble connecting and transfering data from PC. Can you give some commands and what app should I use with Atari.(something like hyper terminal?)

Re: Quick SID question

Nice links, thanx. I actually found some schematics for dual sid mode (with a switch), pretty simple.

Quick SID question

I know that this is not right place for c64 discussions, but I saw some Amiga/Commodore guru`s in this forum....
So, my question, is it possible to just swap older 6581 with new SID 8580 since they are not soldered directly to PCB?
I heard that voltage supply is different....

Re: 520ST wrong ram size

Thanx for nice info. I re-soldered all legs from bottom side of board, everything looks ok (gonna do that with upper chips, too). I just can`t find any tutorial for memory upgrade and wiring (only method with SIMM upgrade). What happens if only one chip is dead?

520ST wrong ram size

Hello, my Atari 520ST is recognizing only 512KB of Ram (with memwatch app and memmaper). There is 1MB installed on board, chips are soldered on top over the old ones, connected with wires. Any tip what could be the problem? There are some soldering jumpers (A16, A17) that are both set to 256K (the o...

Re: ST floppy cable

Well, I did a stupid thing.... I was trying with ``out`` instead of ``in`` port on external floppy. Direct connection is working (1-1, 2-2 etc.)
Thanx for replying.

ST floppy cable

Hi, I just got Atari 520ST and external floppy drive but they both came without any cable. I made power supply using old AT supply and I tried to connect floppy by soldering ribbon cable. I connected every pin to pin (1-1, 2-2, 3-3....) but atari can`t see it. Does anyone have schematic for this kin...
