Re: RGB to HDMI does this work with a ST

So we're back to 15khz then? So a monitor with both VGA and DVI that can only display ST-High through VGA will also only display ST-High through DVI with this converter? Surprisingly, not necessarily. Actually all my monitors are taking the High-Res Monochrome VGA but none are taking the Low or Med...

Re: RGB to HDMI does this work with a ST

StEeLz, what was the LCD TV used for testing? Obviously, this trick works only on some TVs. :-( TV used is the Sharp LC-22LS510UT Could you run evils 50Hz test and share the result? That would be nice. We yet have to see a 50hz capable cheap Scart/HDMI converter. I have actually ran the flicker tes...

Re: Wavy video on 1040 STF

I spent the weekend pinning out the connection of the HSYNC from the glue to the rgb connector since I can't find a schematic that matches my board rev. What I see is the signal going through 2 hex inverters via a chip and there is 22pf (filter) cap across the output. Why is the signal put through ...

Re: Lightning VME is here

It would be great if it was technically possible to use this with a USB>VGA adapter such as this one: https://www.tme.eu/en/Document/6ba3f6c7a60571941f7451c805448ad9/UA0076A.pdf Cheap and convenient, it technically possible, I would pay for some drivers to be written. Lightning is USB 1.1 but USB 2...

Re: CosmosEx - new device for your Atari ST

Hi, I bought CosmosEx from Jookie in January 2017. (with all cables but without Rpi). I still did not installed it coz I need to buy Raspberry Pi first: which version of Raspberry Pi should I buy? Documentation is not consistent. I read somewhere that Rpi ver. 3 is not supported and then on other p...

That output looks weird. Either corrupted or wrong encoding. Can you change encoding? As in ANSI, UTF8 or whatever options there are.

I tried to google using the hints but no dice. Looks like it says Cracked by HellRaiser maybe?

Open the archive in a hex editor and try to look for clues in the headers. Wow. Soldering that is extremely difficult even if you manage to scrape the film without damaging the copper. I guess the copper was fairly thick? I could never be able to fix the Stacy keyboard ribbon.

Re: Recapping an ST board - is it worth?

To answer the other question "Did you ever find a faulty electrolytic capacitor on the ST motherboard?", it depends on the definition of faulty. ESR gets worse over time on electrolytic capacitors. There's no way around it. So a 30 yo cap has a higher ESR than it did when it was installed....

Re: Recapping an ST board - is it worth?

It's only worth it if you succeed. Is it worth attempting? If you're having problems that could be related to caps, sure. If you don't know what you're doing, when to prioritize in ESR, when increased capacitance vs original is better, then no. I've fixed dead PSUs with new capacitors but problem co...

Re: Found some eprom's in an ST lot

I believe D2716 and M2716 are the same. I think that D2716 is Intel and M2716 is ST. So just different brands of the same thing. Regardless you can burn the eproms with M2716 setting. Although, like czietz said, there are no Atari ST applications for those chips. What you want for burning TOS are 6x...

Yeah, definitely would need two 8bit roms for any ST cartridge.

Thanks everyone. OK, so the Mega STE (4MB/40MB) arrived safely (shipped from Winnipeg to Sydney) the PSU fan was going but I just noticed it's shuddering and now it just clicks and hardly moves, the hard disk makes the occasional seeking noise, I removed the PSU, the 12v rail voltage is hovering ar...

When you say that floppy drive would boot then not work, do you mean that the disk actually had an auto folder or accessories that it executed during boot? Or that the desktop appeared almost instantly because the disk was in the drive? When you say that the 1.44MB drive worked, how do you mean it w...

Re: FS: Capacitor replacement kits for Falcon030 motherboard and PSU.

Nichicon are my favorite for many reasons and I use them when I can. My two Stacy boards and PSUs are exclusively Nichicon. 65USD including parts is reasonable.

Greater values are generally ok. Many times it means better ESR. On the downside it can mean larger physical size.

Re: FS: Capacitor replacement kits for Falcon030 motherboard and PSU.

What would be a fair price to have someone do the motherboard recap for you? I am NOT offering to do it. I would probably kill the board! But just in general, what would be a fair price for such a service? If someone sent me the board and caps I'd probably ask 20€ + shipping back. And no, can't tak...

Re: First steps (I have wanted an ST for 30 years and now I have one)?

Hi, and welcome. I'll get straight to the point. The Mega STE has no composite video (maybe some do, not 100%) so you need a VGA monitor and an adapter, which is easy to make. High resolution should work on any VGA monitor but low/med needs a monitor that syncs to 15khz. Or get a scandoubler. That'...
