Sorry, but I will quote you on that because it worked. Very quick way of converting them to .pi1, thanks!

Re: gcc 7.1 for the ST series

Maybe I'm just using it wrong :) With a very simple test.c file: simon@dev:~/atari/code/test (master)$ cat test.c void test() { *(unsigned short*)(0xffff8240) = 0x0700; } And compiling it to an object file, I get: simon@dev:~/atari/code/test (master)$ m68k-atariultrabrown-elf-gcc -c test.c -o test.o...

Re: gcc 7.1 for the ST series

Can you try that on your built compiler and see if LDFLAGS_FOR_TARGET is the same as the above? $ m68k-atariultrabrown-elf-gcc --verbose Using built-in specs. COLLECT_GCC=m68k-atariultrabrown-elf-gcc COLLECT_LTO_WRAPPER=/opt/brown/bin/../libexec/gcc/m68k-atariultrabrown-elf/8.1.0/lto-wrapper Target...

Re: gcc 7.1 for the ST series

Did you link with "-Ttext=0"? If not, try enabling that as I suspect that's the issue. That did the trick. So, why does it default to putting .text at an 0x80000000 offset? Is it just an Linux and/or ELF thing? Can brownout be update to handle this or should I get used to using -Ttext=0 f...

Re: gcc 7.1 for the ST series

I just tried m68k-atariultrabrown-elf-gcc and brownout, both built with the latest source on bitbucket. My code builds OK with Vincent's m68k-atari-mint-gcc 4.6.4 and does build OK with m68k-atariultrabrown-elf-gcc, but brownout asserts on the following: performing section layout... record: section[...

Re: 1040STe just gives blank screen (audio works)

Hello again I've disassembled the STe today. I booted a demo and put the channel on the TV to ch 36 (PAL I). Got blank screen but I heard the music from the demo. I turned on the adjustment screw one or two rotations - then the TV went to static and audio stopped, turned back and got the blank scree...

Re: 1040STe won't boot (keep reading floppy)

Thanks for the information, I will try it! I'm not sure if it will work, because today I tried the STe with a monochrome monitor (SM124) and there was no picture at all, only blank. I tried the monitor with my 520ST and it worked fine... Maybe the 1040STe is just broken :( - But I will try to adjust...

Re: 1040STe won't boot (keep reading floppy)

Ah, I've forgotten that the ST take some time to boot without a floppy inserted... I read about the UK PAL-system and noticed that they use PAL I instead of PAL B/G, so I tried changing to PAL I on my TV and searched for right channel. It stops at channel 36 and I can hear the audio (if I boot a DEM...

1040STe just gives blank screen (audio works)

Hello I just bought an Atari 1040STe on Tradera (sweden's equivalent to eBay). I already have a 520STFM so I thought it would be nice to have "better" Atari ST too incase I want to use maxYMiser, Devpac, etc. Anyhow, I tried to start it yesterday plugged in to my TV and the first thing I n...

Re: Weird problem with VBL

Simple answer: you only call the actual replay ONCE. It has to be done cyclic at the same pace, e.q. from an interrupt. VBL or better a Timer interrupt because you can keep the music speed independant from screen refresh. Ahhh! I just changed "jsr music+8 PLAY" with: loop jsr music+8 PLAY...

Re: Weird problem with VBL

Ahh, thanks! By the way, I have another problem. I could probably find the answer in the tutorial but it´s kinda easier just asking here instead of looking thru 15 PDF's.. Isn´t this: move.w $ff8242,a0 move.w #$007,(a0) (a0 points to $ff8242, then putting #$007 into what a0 points to) the same thing...

Weird problem with VBL

Hello I´m learning asm on the 680x0 with Perihelions tutorials. I were modifying the example code in the 5th tutorial ( http://www.atari-forum.com/wiki/index.php/Perihelion_tutorial_5 ) when I suddenly had some strange problem. I tried to use the "wait-for-VBL"-code in my program but it ju...

Re: Newbie have some questions

About menu-diskes: What kind of ST do I need to run most of them? I downloaded quite a few Automation Compact Disks and copied them to DD-disks. Most of them didn´t load at all, just gave me a white screen. Some loaded but ended up with 3 bombs. One disk said I had to low RAM to play the games. Only...

It´s an 520STFM... Btw, what kind of internal disk-drive do the 520STFM have? The english wikipedia-article says it have a single-sided but the deutsch wikipedia-article says it have a double-sided.. :s Oh, nvm. The english article says "Later F and FM models of the 520 had a built in double-si...

Re: Making demos

Aha! Is the video-mode that games/demos uses called anything special? (In DOS most old games and some demos run in a video-mode called mode-13h or something similiar) Some other questions: I tried to assemble some code with DevPac3.1 in Steem. But it just say: "TOS Error #39: Out of memory"...

Re: Making demos

Well. I guess I need to start learn some 68000 assembler then! Thank you for your replies :) Btw, a question. Don´t really know how to explain it, but: Some games and DEMOs need to be in the disk-drive while starting the ST. Are they loaded before the TOS? Do they have anything to do with TOS at all...

Making demos

Hello I want to make DEMOs / INTROs on the Atari ST. Which language do you think would be the best choice? I´ve already done some small graphical demos on my (x86) pc with C and assembler. Anyone know if there is some good tutorials / guide out there that shows you how to set the right graphic mode,...

Requesting all games that are on single-sided disks (320k)

Hello A friend is coming over tonight to see my new Atari ST. Unfortunately my Atari ST doesn´t have a internel disk-drive. Just an external disk-drive that only can read single-sided disks (max 320k). Anyone know if there is some groups that released menu discs on single-sided disks or if it is pos...

Record MIDI in maxYMiser in STEem?

Hello I´m trying to record a MIDI-file into maxYMiser in STEem, but I can´t get it to work.. I´ve told Steem to put my soundcard as MIDI-port and tried to play some MIDI-music in windows while recording in maxYMiser in STEem. In maxYMiser i´ve set (as default) that MIDI-channel 0-6 is instrument 01....

Re: Newbie have some questions

I haven´t tried to replace the disk drive-part yet.. but I´ve tried to copy some programs like maXYmiser and some DEMOs to a 720k floppy and tried it with my Atari. Unfortunely it didn´t work. As you might read, my external disk drive can ONLY read SINGLE-SIDED disks (max 360k). How do I format a di...

Re: Newbie have some questions

So, long question short: Is it possible to change the disk drive on my SF-354 to a 1.44MB instead of a 360kb? Here are some discussion about floppy & ST. Not sure if the answer's in there. 1. Greenious ATARI ST UPGRADE GUIDE'S & TIP'S 2. Atari ST(E) and floppy drives I´ve read bot...
